Education

Maplewood's student population is served by School Districts 622 and 623 where students are served by 10 elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools. District 622 has implemented STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) techniques into the elementary school curriculum where students will focus on hands-on projects that implement engineering and science skills. There is also a wide variety of private schools in Maplewood, including Minnesota Waldorf School, Trinity Catholic School, and Liberty Classical Academy.

Maplewood is home to Century College, a small two-year college that not only offers degrees in subjects such as business and health care, but certificates in cosmetology, interior design, and automotive technology. Century College is also a part of the National Junior College Athletic Association as well as a multicultural center which hosts a diverse array of events for the community throughout the year.

Economy

3M Corporation (formerly the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company) is headquartered in Maplewood and serves as the largest employer in the area. Worldwide, the company employs 88,000 people and produces over 55,000 products including dental products, adhesives, laminates, passive fire protection, electronic circuits, and optical films.

Many of Maplewood?s residents are employed by 3M, however, quite a few other residents work for St. John?s Hospital, Independent School District 622, and the City of Maplewood.

Attractions

Maplewood is located a mere 10 minutes away from Saint Paul, one of America?s fastest growing cities. St. Paul is home to family attractions, roaring nightlife, museums, and cultural attractions.

The Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is a wonderful setting for a day out. This zoo is particularly known for its California sea lion exhibit, giant cats, and gorillas.

St. Paul abounds with museums with some of the more popular ones being the Minnesota Children?s Museum, Science Museum of Minnesota, and the Minnesota Museum of Art.

Live theatre is also quite popular in St. Paul as there are nine different theatres (including a small one in Maplewood) that show various productions throughout the year.

Sports fans love catching a baseball game at Midway Stadium or a hockey game at Xcel Energy Center.

Parks and Recreation

The residents of Maplewood enjoy leading healthy, active lives and the Maplewood Nature Center is the ideal place to go to get moving! The Nature Center features a mile-and-a-half nature trail that winds through the center's gorgeous woods and expansive wetlands and is home a picnic area and rain gardens. Maplewood also has dozens of parks that have their own variety of amenities, such as playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, picnic areas, and winter skating areas.

During the hot summer months residents enjoy visiting the Maplewood Community Center. Considered one of the jewels of Maplewood, the Community Center houses the MCC Aquatic Center, a 25-yard, six lane wide pool, as well as an interactive leisure pool and children?s water play area complete with a thrilling waterslide. The Center also contains strength and cardio centers, a motion zone, racquetball and Wallyball courts, a gym, and a sport shop.

In the warm summer months, residents enjoy playing the greens at one of the five different golf courses located within 20 short minutes of Maplewood. Lake Phalen is a serene lake located in St. Paul that is perfect for fishing, boating, sailing, and swimming.
